Greetings from Arapawa Wildlife Sanctuary
My name is Shannon Rowe, Bettys granddaughter and have officially stepped into her 'gumboots' in my role as Trustee.
I have been living at the sanctuary since late April with my daughter Giovanna, to ensure the wellbeing of the goats and to carry out the wishes of Nana (Betty) in regard to the welfare and future of the animals.
For the immediate future, I will be focussed on overseeing the late kidding season and on-growing of those resultant babies.
For those of you who do not know me, I grew up on Arapawa Island. Always close to my grandmother and sharing her love of the goats, I have birthed and raised orphans myself in addition to having served my apprenticeship mucking out goat sheds.
I have now been joined by Debbie Rowe (Mum), as Trustee who also has a passion to see that the Sanctuary achieves all that Nana wished.
We thank all for their concerns re: the welfare of the animals and will continue to keep in touch with regards to future planning.

New Trustee for Arapawa Wildlife sanctuary
Following the death of Betty Rowe, her granddaughter has become Trustee of the Arapawa Wildlife sanctuary. Here is her message to those interested in the future of the Arapawa goat:

Hello - I too was saddened to learn of the death of Betty - as I was really enjoying e-mail correspondence from my second cousin. My mom is Betty's first cousin and while I was visitng my Mom in Florida last winter I was able to locate her website. My Mom and I communicated with Betty via e-mail. Then in January 08 I had breast cancer and did not e-mail as much until this past spring - I never heard back from Betty - Two weeks ago, I asked my Mom again if she has heard anything from Betty and that is when I seached her site and learned of her passing - She was awesome and we talked about me coming to New Zealnad sometime - this will sound very odd - but I have always loved the small pigme (sp?) goats - who knows -is the love of goats passed on via DNA? Anyway, I applaud you for continuing her work, I had a dream last night and I saw Betty and Walt walking down a path and their goats were behind them. I loved the way Betty ended her e-mails with, Hugs, and I have since adopted that ending.

There may be something to the goat-lover DNA theory--- my great-grandmother kept goats. She lived in Lippe, Germany so I don't know what kind of goats she had, except that one was white and one wasn't.
